Autonomous free-energy transducer working under thermal fluctuations
By a modular combination of mesoscopic detectors and gates, we present a thoughtful pump that transports gas particles against the difference of their density at the expense of the diffusion of another species of gas particles. We also discuss briefly the relevance of the model to the study of structure-function relationship of the biomolecular machines.
متن کاملInformation-to-free-energy conversion: Utilizing thermal fluctuations
Maxwell's demon is a hypothetical creature that can convert information to free energy. A debate that has lasted for more than 100 years has revealed that the demon's operation does not contradict the laws of thermodynamics; hence, the demon can be realized physically. We briefly review the first experimental demonstration of Maxwell's demon of Szilard's engine type that converts information to...
متن کاملAutonomous Energy Transducer: Proposition, Example, Basic Characteristics
We propose a concept of autonomous energy transducer at a molecular scale, where output is produced with small input energy, of the same order of the thermal energy, without restriction of magnitude or timing of input, and without any control after the input. As an example that satisfies these requisites, a dynamical systems model with several degrees of freedom is proposed, which transduces in...
متن کاملAutonomous oscillation in supramolecular assemblies: Role of free energy landscape and fluctuations
Molecular dynamics studies demonstrated that a supramolecular assembly can express autonomous structural oscillations about equilibrium. It is demonstrated here that for nanosystems such oscillations can result from the interplay of free energy landscape and structural fluctuations. Furthermore, these oscillations have intermittent character, reflecting the conflict between a tendency to oscill...
متن کاملEnergy fluctuations shape free energy of nonspecific biomolecular interactions
Understanding design principles of biomolecular recognition is a key question of molecular biology. Yet the enormous complexity and diversity of biological molecules hamper the efforts to gain a predictive ability for the free energy of protein-protein, proteinDNA, and protein-RNA binding. Here, using a variant of the Derrida model, we predict that for a large class of biomolecular interactions...
